Next up is A Christmas Festival, an eclectic, enchanting selection of music that is sure to leave the audience in a holiday spirit. Directed by Regan MacNay and featuring world-renowned organist Ian Sadler, A Christmas Festival will showcase the talents of up-and-coming baritone soloist Matt Cassils in Felix Mendelssohn’s short Christmas cantata Vom Himmel Hoch as well as in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ popular Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Amongst the evening’s collection of choral works, spanning different languages and historical periods, a highlight will be Canadian composer Mark Sirett’s delightful Christmas tango O Brillante Estrella. GBCC’s 3rd annual Who’s Your Paddy? evening of Celtic music, food, beer and step-dancing, will take place in Saint Mary’s Hall on Saturday, March 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 – call Elizabeth at 519-538-1276.
To celebrate 2013, GBCC’s 40th anniversary year, the choir will be the guests of John Barnum and the Georgian Bay Symphony for an all-Schubert programme on the evening of Saturday, March 23. For tickets call GBS at 519-372-0212. The celebration continues with a performance of Haydn’s Creation on Friday, April 19, 7:30 p.m. at Georgian Shores United Church. Inspired by the works of Handel and by Milton’s Paradise Lost, this undisputed masterpiece of the late 18th century, depicting the creation of the heavens, the earth, the animals and human beings, expresses Haydn’s exuberant joy in the beauty of the natural world. Directed by Regan MacNay and featuring Ian Sadler and guest soloists, the cost is only $20 for adults, with no admission charge for students in Grades 1 through 12. Georgian Bay Concert Choir will host a choral workshop on Saturday, June 1 at Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. This is a chance for all singers to improve their vocal technique. Finally, to conclude a year of 40th anniversary celebrations, GBCC will perform Handel’s beloved Messiah in Owen Sound in December of 2013. Come join us!
