2012-2013 Concert Series


A Christmas Festival features an eclectic, enchanting selection of music sure to leave the audience in a holiday spirit. Up-and-coming baritone soloist Matt Cassils performs Felix Mendelssohn’s short Christmas cantata Vom Himmel Hoch and is featured in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ popular Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Amongst the evening’s collection of choral works, spanning different languages and historical periods, a highlight will be Canadian composer Mark Sirett’s delightful Christmas piece O Brillante Estrella.

$20 for adults, students in Grades 1 through 12 are admitted free of charge.

To celebrate its 40th season, the Choir joins the Symphony in an all-Schubert evening. This master of song shows his mettle in excerpts from Symphonies No. 5 and 9, Rosamunde Overture as well as Chamber Music from the Octet. Voice was the Schubert specialty and our Choral and Voice offerings will go from movements of famous Masses to An die Musik and the famous Ave Maria.

Inspired by the works of Handel and by Milton’s Paradise Lost, this undisputed masterpiece of the late 18th century, depicting the creation of the heavens, the earth, the animals and human beings, expresses Haydn’s exuberant joy in the beauty of the natural world.
